PETE ROCK
Featuring INTEL & MERK 1

Friday Night at Zentra Nightclub has always been dedicated to Music.  Jack Fridays concentrates our main dance floor to Chicago’s own style, Jackin' House Music.  Over the years we have managed to bring in the largest deejay talent the world has to offer, layering it with the best local Chicago talent.  In our main lounge area we start it off with some old school House, slowing it down to Hip Hop to finish out the remainder of the night.  In our VIP Lounge we feature Chance.LocalChicago, a program that showcases only local up & coming talent.  This smaller room features all areas of music; House, D&B, Techno, Break Beat, Hip Hop, etc.  Last, but surely not least, our outdoor patio garden, for a hint of fresh air or a break from any type of music.  Friday Nights has always been a perfectly, well-rounded theme of music… Something for everyone.  ATTENTION : We recently added a ALL NEW LIGHTING SYSTEM WITH UPGRADED SOUND on the 2nd Floor Main Room and a FUNKTION ONE SOUND SYSTEM on the 1st Floor.  Check it out!!!

Pete Rock
Pete Rock first exploded onto the music scene in the late eighties as a DJ on New York radio station WBLS "In Control with Marley Marl," which aired every Friday and Saturday night. With a solid fan base behind him, Pete decided he wanted to expand his musical talents, so in the early 90's Pete began producing. Not content with being a producer and DJ, Pete hooked up with long time friend and rapper CL Smooth in 1991. The rest as they say is history. Today Pete Rock is regarded as an icon in hip hop.

With the release of the EP ‘All Souled Out’ in 1991 and two full-length albums ‘Mecca & The Soul Brother’ in 1992 and ‘Main Ingredient’ in 1994, Pete Rock & CL Smooth became a major force in the rap community. After the solid Mecca/Creator 12", the duo unleashed one of those all-time classic LP's every MC dreams of having, "Mecca & The Soul Brother". This album should serve as a model for what every hip-hop producer should strive for when they lay down tracks for an artist. Very rarely do you ever come across close to 80 minutes of music with little need to skip to the next track. That's how good this album is. Quite a few of the songs on here are very monumental: 'They Reminisce Over You', 'Straighten It Out', 'Ghettos Of The Mind', and even 'Lots Of Lovin' to name a few... These are the types of songs that can literally make you cry - damn, they were playing TROY at funerals everywhere. While riding high on their success, Pete Rock & CL Smooth shocked their fans and the music industry by deciding to go their separate ways in 1994. Pete continued to work on his remix and producing skills – see discography below. In 1995 Chris LaMonica, National Director of Mix Shows at Loud Records hooked up with Pete who was now the DJ for Future Flavas with Marley Marl on Hot 97. From building a promotional relationship with Pete, Chris was able to bring the talent of Pete Rock to Loud, which resulted in the birth of a solo career.

Pete's debut solo album on Loud Records ‘Soul Survivor’ was released in the summer of 1998. The album featured guest appearances from Raekwon (Wu Tang Clan), The Roots, OC, Rob-O, Black Thought (The Roots), CL Smooth and Kool G Rap.  In early 2000 BBE hooked up with Pete Rock and he decided to produce an eclectic beats album for our BEAT GENERATION series. Alongside Pete’s extensive record collection, he inherited from his fathers’ record collection a rich variety of music, which he and BBE both decided should be reflected on this groundbreaking release. The fusion of reggae, jazz, pop, folk, rock and soul would lace this intricate project. A scattering of MC tracks are present to wet the appetite’s of Pete’s traditional fan base. All three MC cuts feature a new crew called the UN. The UN features Rock Marciano from Busta Rhymes posse - Flipmode Squad and newcomers Divine, Godfree and Laku.

 Lego
Inspired by his family and the surroundings of Chicago's Latino community of Logan Square, Rafael Rodriguez, Lego, committed himself to music at an early age. His career began when he was 19 years old with his first club residency at Kaboom. Kaboom led to his 9-year (and still going strong) residency at Red Dog's "Boom Boom Room", one of the longest running nights in Chicago club history. Red Dog gave Lego the musical freedom that he needed to gain respect from his peers and fans alike. Being part of a night that has received worldwide attention opened the doors to production. Drawing from a wide spectrum of musical tastes (Latin Jazz, Jazz, Hip Hop, R & B, Salsa, Meringue, House, Disco and Funk) and influenced by Chicago's DJ legends (Frankie Knuckles, Ralphi Rosario, Farley "Jackmaster" Funk, and Edward "Get Down" Crosby), Lego pursued his musical passion.

In 1997, Andy Adams of UC Music approached Lego to complete a remix for a Ralphi Rosario/Donna Blakely song entitled "Take Me Up." Lego's remix made it to #4 on the Billboard Dance Chart. Since then he has claimed two more Billboard hits remixing another Ralphi Rosario/Donna Blakely collaboration "Do You Like The Way That It Feels"and Rosario's 1998 romp, "Wanna Give ItUp"featuring Disco Diva legend Linda Clifford. In 1999 he produced the E.P "Flava In Ya Ear Vol. 2" on Afterhours which included international hits "El Ritmo De Verdad" and "When I'm With You." Both tracks quickly became anthems for that year's club season in Ibiza, Spain. The EP hit #1 on the International Dance Music Charts and still remains the best selling release in the label's history. Just recently in New City Chicago Newspaper Lego is listed at #27 in their Music 45 issue. Lego is not leaving the dance music scene anytime soon. When he's not in Paris at his monthly residency "House Sound" at Le Gibus or touring, you can see him live around Chicago area in the hottest clubs this city has to offer.

Underground pop artist Ken “ECB” Christensen is not just a producer, songwriter, musician and or DJ.  He is addicted to multi cultural media faceted by technology and popular culture, dissecting the way humans hear, see, and think, he has developed a taste for giving the audience an intriguing ride, whether in a club, on the net or in a gallery.  At the age of 5, he had an inquisitive mind, always tearing things apart to see what is inside and how it worked, this set the stage for his adult life.   A sax player at the age of 8, drummer at 12, guitars came in around 15 and so on.  Music has always been his first love and in the mid 80’s when he discovered the cross platform between technology and sound, it was a match made in heaven.
